The condenser and evaporator are the core heat exchange components of automotive air conditioning systems, with the following functional and structural differences:

1、 Function comparison

Condenser

Function: Cool the high-temperature and high-pressure gaseous refrigerant discharged by the compressor into liquid form, and release the heat to the outside environment of the vehicle through the heat sink.
Work pressure: High (12-20 atmospheres), temperature can reach over 50 ℃.
Installation location: usually located at the front of the car, close to the radiator, relying on fans or driving airflow to assist in heat dissipation.

Evaporator

Function: Absorb heat inside the car, vaporize liquid refrigerant, and achieve cooling effect.
Work pressure: Low, with temperatures typically below 0 ℃.
Installation location: mostly located below the dashboard (near the passenger glove box).
2、 Collaborative workflow
In the refrigeration cycle, the condenser completes the "heat release liquefaction" and the evaporator realizes the "heat absorption gasification", and the two work together to regulate the temperature inside the vehicle through pressure control.
During heating, the condenser increases the temperature inside the vehicle by emitting more heat.
3、 Structural differences
Condenser: The diameter of the pipe is relatively thick (12mm), the area of the heat sink is large (the unfolded area can reach half a double bed), and it needs to withstand high temperature and high pressure.
Evaporator: The pipe diameter is relatively small (6mm), and it adopts an aluminum plate fin structure with a compact design to maximize heat absorption efficiency.
4、 Common faults
The evaporator is prone to ash accumulation and blockage (reducing refrigeration efficiency by more than 30%) or corrosion and leakage (with maintenance costs starting at 1500 yuan).
The condenser is prone to deformation of the heat sink caused by flying stones (repair cost about 800 yuan) or pipeline leakage (repair cost 3000 yuan).
5、 Performance impact

When the condenser has poor heat dissipation, the air conditioning compressor needs to work 30% more and fuel consumption increases by 0.5-1L/100km.

The evaporator efficiency is increased by 10%, and the cooling speed inside the car can be accelerated by 2-3 minutes.

Both of them jointly ensure the stable operation of the car air conditioning system, which is the key to driving comfort.
